District 3 incumbent Jennifer Terrasa (D) and contender Dennis Schrader (R) discuss what they consider the most pressing issues to citizens and business, at the Howard County debates in Columbia on Wednesday.

The Howard County Chamber of Commerce sponsored debates for county legislature in Columbia on Wednesday. Debate participants included County Executive Ken Ulman and contender Trent Kittleman, as well as the candidates for the other five districts in Howard County.

Jennifer Terrasa, the Democratic councilwoman for District 3, faced off against Republican Dennis Schrader. Schrader was director of Maryland's Department of Homeland Security under then-Governor Bob Ehrlich.

Schrader said business owners are concerned with "predictability in regulation," and he wants to establish trust with those interested in moving into the North Laurel, Savage and South Columbia communities.

Terrasa, running for her second term, stressed her record in terms of making strategic budget cuts over the past four years. She also said, along with Schrader, she has no intention of raising taxes.
